Marisa Mares, Ph. D., QME

Dr. Marisa Mares is a bilingual (native Spanish speaker/ English) clinical psychologist with pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training in clinical neuropsychology. As part of her pre-doctoral training, she completed two forensic rotations (Bridgewater State Prison, MA & MCI – Concord, MA) where her duties involved primarily neuropsychological assessments of inmates. Dr. Mares has co-authored journal articles regarding the assessment and treatment of Hispanic patients, with a special emphasis on adult and geriatric populations. At the beginning of her doctoral studies, Dr. Mares was the recipient of the American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program grant in geriatrics for three years. Toward the end of her graduate studies, she was a pre-doctoral intern at one of the most prestigious centers for multicultural training in psychology, The Center for Multicultural Training at Boston Medical Center/Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, an APA-accredited internship. She then received the Harvard University Medical School post-doctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at McLean Hospital in Massachusetts. Dr. Mares’s clinical background includes extensive experience in treating culturally diverse individuals with a wide range of chronic and severe mental illnesses and health issues in various types of clinical settings. In addition, she has provided consultation services to staff at day treatment programs and rehabilitative facilities. Her current areas of professional practice include performing psychodiagnostic and neuropsychological evaluations in medical, industrial and criminal cases.

Dr.Mares also provides treatment to individuals who present with chronic medical illnesses, trauma-related conditions (i.e., traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury), chronic pain, and cognitive dysfunction. She is also a certified Spanish-language court interpreter for the State of California and Los Angeles County.
